It is a fact, so what if we take advantage of it, instead of fighting against it?

According to Common Sense Media reports, children at the age of 8 and younger spend an average of 2 hours and 19 minutes a day with screen media. The study eventually shows that kids’ overall media use has stayed about the same since 2011, however what’s changed is how they’re using it. Mobile is totally taking over – it now makes up 39% of screen time. The report also reveals that mobile will become even a bigger part of children’s lives.
“One of the most astonishing findings is that mobile devices are now as common in the home as TVs – 98% of households with kids under 8 have a mobile device,” says James Steyer, chief executive officer and founder of Common Sense Media.
Meanwhile, debates also rise around the topic of the effects of mobile usage. Discussions about smartphones, tablets and their impact on people’s brains and mental health are everywhere now, and they’re particularly intense when it comes to children. Opinions differ among researchers, scientists and parents. Anya Kamenetz, an NPR reporter states that the available studies are too limited to give any definitive answers. As she notes, researchers have struggled to keep up with the rapid emergence of new devices and technologies. Therefore, due to the lack of large-scale studies, meta-analyses, or longitudinal studies it would be a mistake to make clear statements. One thing is sure, though: in any way we intend to react upon the changes in everyday life, we always have to keep in mind the real values in order to protect the next generation.
BOOKR Kids is aware of the changing content consumption of children. That’s why we decided to fill the screen time with valuable and secure content: with YOUR BOOKS! We believe that book publishers can and should keep up with the digital age for three reasons:
- Kids read more content on smart devices and less in traditional paperbacks.
- New and more readers can be reached through mobile and tablet applications.
- Digital solutions can go hand in hand with print publishing and can also function as a marketing tool!
BOOKR Kids’ solutions turn printed books into interactive, animated audio e-books with educational games. At the end of the production process the digitized, interactive e-books are integrated into various kinds applications for smartphones and tablets.
